Sofia Jern is a photographer from Vasa, Finland, who grew up in Kenya. Ever since, she has been traveling between Kenya and Finland.
Sofia was early in her life exposed to social inequalities and violation of human rights, which has had a strong influence on her artistic career. In 2016 Sofia won the international photo-competition Student Focus with her photo series “Glue Boys”; a story about kids living on the street in Kitale, Kenya, about togehterness, every day life, exposure and that hope is something relative. The photo series will be on display during the festival.
As a young photographer with a background both in Europe and in Africa, Sofia lives a life where she constantly compares different cultures with each other. Through these comparisons she wants to encourage dialogue between individuals and different cultures.
